A lot of people are interested in becoming life coaches. It’s not just the prestige and potential earnings that motivate them; it’s also a sense of purpose, creativity, and growth. But before you dive headfirst into your coaching career, there are certain signs to look out for that will tell you it’s time to leap. Here are seven signs that you’re ready for a coaching journey.

1. You Have the Passion for Helping Others

You need the desire to help people and care about them genuinely. That’s where the magic happens. If you’re doing this just for the money, you will have a hard time keeping motivated and enthusiastic in your work, which will make coaching ineffective. When you know what you’re doing is helping someone, your positive outlook will be infectious. This will make it easier for those who are going through a tough time to pick themselves back up again.

2. You Understand the Impact That Negative Thoughts Have on People’s Lives

Negative thoughts and the consequences they bring can be crippling. When someone is dealing with depression, anxiety, or any other negative emotion, how you react to them is crucially important. You can’t change what someone else thinks. However, you can influence their thought patterns and behavior by showing support and understanding instead of criticism.

3. You Know the Coaching Niche to Venture Into

There are three major coaching niches: executive coaching, marriage or relationship coaching, and health coaching. Each of these has a different style, experience required, and specialisms. You’ll need to do some serious research and take a closer look into each niche before deciding to switch to the next level. Taking a life coaching niche quiz and discovering what you’re truly passionate about is a great idea.

It’s hard to coach people if you cannot relate to what they are going through. It’s okay to start with one niche and follow your heart; however, don’t get stuck in that niche forever. You may find that you would rather be a coach for those struggling with addiction, for example. If you’re passionate about helping this type of person, don’t just stick to one niche forever.

4. You Have a Distinct Personal Identity

It will help if you believe in yourself, your knowledge and experience, and your passion for helping people. You’ll never be able to help someone else if you aren’t able to help yourself, so you must learn to cultivate positive self-esteem and recognize your strengths and weaknesses. You can only do this with some introspection. After all, there’s a lot of bad stuff that happens out there in the world. You need to take the good and focus on it.

5. You Have a Compelling Vision for What You Want to Achieve

How will you get there if you don’t know where you want to go? You need a strong vision of where you want to take your coaching, where you want to be in your career, and what this lifestyle means for your future. The more defined this vision is, the easier it will be for you to stay motivated and work harder.

6. You Are Working on Yourself and Your Life

Nothing can come without effort, so you need to realize that you can’t just jump into coaching now. It would help if you worked on yourself first to be ready to help people in the future. You also need to ensure there isn’t anything toxic in your life that could harm someone else. If there is, you should get it out of your life, and not only your own, but the lives of those around you.

7. You Are Willing to Travel

It would help if you were willing to travel extensively. Not only will it help you to get the experience you need, but it will also help you network with other life coaches and better prepare yourself for your new profession. It’s a good idea also to find out if any relevant certifications would validate what you do.

These are just some of the signs to look out for while you transition from your present life to a new life as a life coach. The first step to becoming a life coach is to decide if it’s something you want or something you can do. If you’re ready, the next step will be finding out where you’re going and your niche.
